Milk River Watershed Council Canada (MRWCC) and Cows and Fish would like to invite you to a barbeque on September 19 at Weir Bridge from 2-7pm. It will be a fun opportunity for landowners to enjoy some tasty free food and learn about the Little Fish, Big Stewardship project funded in part by Fisheries and Oceans Canada. It offers cost sharing with participating landowners on stewardship projects that will have a positive impact on the riparian area. Riparian refers to the green zones along the river. Projects such as: permanent and electric fencing and watering systems can help manage grazing pressure in the riparian area. Other eligible projects include but are not limited to riparian grazing management plans and riparian restoration. Riparian areas are vulnerable, but productive lands, protecting these areas can have positive benefits for landowners, as well as helping to protect habitat for the at-risk fish species, within the Milk River. We have enjoyed working with landowners this summer and have openings to work with more landowners next year! The event will also feature a casual riparian area tour, we will talk about the benefits of having healthy ecosystems along the river.
